Description: Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a 1940's era Turner BX "bullet" microphone with classic, clean lines and heavy deco influence. The crystal BX and BD (dynamic) series were originally intended as "general purpose" microphones as were the BD and CD crystal models in the chrome finish. This is the painted brown crystal version. These could be used for dispatch and also for singing as I've seen these used in old bands from the 1940's and 50's. Today these are sought after as excellent harp mics for use with a harmonica due to their gritty, muddy High Z sound. That being said the mic has been tested and has a non-working element so this should be used for display, prop or repair purposes only. It comes with a short cable and the period chrome desk stand in which to display. Pic # 2 is from an old Turner advertisement showing all 4 models of this series of mic and it's basic characteristics. Again, this is a non-working display model as the original element is no longer working but I have seen people put Shure Controlled Magnetic and Controlled Reluctance elements in these Turner mics as replacements. These are smaller mics and quite easy to hold and cup if you use a harmonica. As seen in the pictures provided this mic has typical wear showing typical scuff marks, tiny scratches and discoloration in the paint but it's free of any fractures, corrosion or dents. The original inner black screen is in excellent condition and acts as a pop filter. The front grill is free of any dents or odors. The BD & CD models came with a Turner badge while the BX and CX models did not come with a badge. For some reason the chrome plated models had the badge but Turner decided not to include them on the brown painted versions. Both threads for the cable and stand are in perfect condition. Despite the cosmetic wear the mic is in good overall condition and I would rate this a true 6 on a scale of 1 - 10. The mic has a short original 10 inch cable that is soft, pliable and has a quality Cannon male XLR end connector which strictly for display purposes but is wired correctly if you choose to replace the element looks good complimenting the mic. The mic will screw on to any American desk or floor stand but it comes with the older stand shown. The stand brand and model are unknown but it's quite old. I would estimate 1930's to 1940's. The stand has a chrome finish on both the stem / riser and base. As you can see there is just as much wear on the stand as there is on the mic. The two do compliment each other nicely and the stand with mic is appx 11 inches tall X 4 1/4 inches wide. You can easily unscrew the mic from the riser if needed. There is a designation on the bottom that says GM 412. Again, I have no idea who manufactured this stand? This would make a great display piece in the home, office or studio. An instant conversation piece. As with all my vintage microphones for sale... I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy.
