Description: You are bidding on item listed. A Vintage Parris Kadet Trainerifle White 03 Springfield Wood Training Rifle VG. Parris Mfg Co., Savannah, Tenn.. Circa 1949-early1950s. Pressed and cast steel with wood stock Made in USA, Approx. 38-1/2 inches long. Parris has long been one of the most prolific American manufacturers of wood and metal toy guns. They are still in business today (Google them). They started business in Clarinda, Iowa as Parris-Dunn in 1936, when prolific inventor William. G. Dunn joined with business manager C.L. Parris. One of their main products was a wind machine that charged batteries on farms for use with early radios. As WWII began, they turned their talents to making dummy training rifles for the US military (over 500,00 were produced). After the war, they scaled down their dummy Springfield look-alikes and began selling them as toys. In 1949, Dunn decided to retire and sold out to Parris who, in the next few years, moved the company to Savannah, Tenn.(where they are still based today). This gun dates to that post-war period (when the new company had moved to Tenn.). The metal butt-plate is stamped Kadet Trainerifle, Savannah, Tenn.. This is the original white finish which was sold to schools for their younger drill teams (yes kids, in this time sharp drill teams were as important in public and private schools as a sharp band and god cheerleaders). This gun is one of the scale versions. It has the original white canvas sling and 3nickel finish sling buckles. The barrel is nickel chrome steel and the trigger and trigger guard are black painted stamped steel. This gun works well. The bolt action works well. The bolt is steel with an attached wooden shaft ending in a carved bullet (a design they used for years). The bolt lever is nickel chrome finished cast metal. When the bolt is worked it springs back and when closed, compresses a spring in the beach. The trigger is actually a clicker. Everything functions as it should. All parts are original. The paint finish has some scuffs and scratches. I have done nothing to clean or restore this piece. It is in good condition but could be cleaned and touched up (your job). This gun will make an excellent addition to any Parris or Toy Gun collection. Very Good condition.
