Description: Original typed manuscript by Wittgenstein scholar and author John Cook, on the “Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis”, or linguistic relativism. This essay appeared in the first two issues of "Philosophical Investigations" a journal focusing on the philosophy of language. Vol I, Nos. I & II, from 1978, are included here; they appear to be off-prints, or perhaps advance issues, as they only contain the Cook essay, even though the covers list other contributor's work. (I have complete issues of Vol 1, #1 and Vol 1, #2, which will appear in a latter offering). The title of the journal comes from Wittgenstein's book on the subject. The earlier issues of the journal were issued in an offset printing and are now themselves quite scarce. Original 139 page typed manuscript includes corrections by Cook, as do the two issues of the journal in which it appears. The printed version must have been condensed, edited down in size, as the manuscript is book length... so it is an unpublished John Cook manuscript in a sense. I will be listing a short run of the first numbers of the Philosophical Investigations (originally edited by Frederick Mosedale, beginning in 1978) and a collection of almost 80 books from Cook's library of titles by and on Wittgenstein. It will include the two books written by Cook on Wittgenstein, as well his other published work. Track Page Views With Auctiva's FREE Counter
