Description: As we all know, the D&S segment was the first RP title to be shot in wide screen format (on some scenes), while the rest are in full screen mode. 3 Western Railroads (Durango & silverton with Rio Grande 473 in Colorado, Heber Valley with Union Pacific 618 in Utah, & Nevada Northern with 93 & 40) have Snow on the ground & everywhere, While the 2 Eastern Railroads (new hope & ivyland in Pennsylvania with Lancaster & Chester 40, & western Maryland scenic railroad with Lake Superior & Ishpeming 734) Have A Snowless winter. Excellent Footage & Narration From Les Jarrett Himself, But it’s a shame that none of us would hear 734’s whistle in this program during pusher service in the segment with a nice ride from the caboose in front of the chunky consolidation, since the engine is gone for a big disassembly to pieces for the FRA inspection. Who knows what would happen in the future that when mountain thunder gets re-assembled again, along with newly restored C&O 1309, Doubleheaded steam will return to the Cumberland-Frostburg line, just beyond 70 years after regular steam on the real Western Maryland (since a fallen flag of today’s CSX) eventually ended? Oh & fun fact: some of these scenes were also used in the 2005 DVD conversion of the 1996 video: Choo Choo Christmas that was produced in conjunction with the late Greg Scholl. All in all, if you love steam in the snow, this is a nice add-on to the other Railway productions winter themed titles: Narrow Gauge combo with rotary snowplow through the Rockies, of course Choo Choo Christmas, steam in the winter, winter freights on the Durango & silverton, riding a freight train on the D&S, cab ride over white pass, western winter steam, Winter in the blue mountains, Narrow Gauge Adventure, Alaska’s white pass & Yukon route-Gateway to the Yukon, Canadian pacific 2816, rotary snowplows to Cumbres pass, & Winter Steam Combo: reading & northern, & Grand Canyon Railway.
