Description: This Italian made vintage hand carved wooden statue is Saint Eligius and was carved in Val Gardena area in northern Italy during the mid-twentieth century. St. Eligius was French bishop of Limoges who lived from 590 tp 660 A.D. He was also a skilled metalsmith. In this statue, he is dressed in the clothes and holds tools of his trade, but not as a bishop. He stands almost 7 1/4" tall from the bottom of the base and is 2 " wide and about 1 1/2" deep. Do not be indifferent to saints you are not familiar with. There are many, many saints that you need to get acquainted with.
